Anti-Bullying/Kindness Week
This week was Anti-Bullying/Kindness Week, a time for schools across the country to come together to celebrate kindness, friendship, and respect. This year’s theme reminds us that even the smallest act of kindness can make a big difference and help everyone feel safe and included.
We kicked off the week with an assembly, led by our student council and Ms. Amanda. They used the 'Have You Filled a Bucket Today? book to emphasize the importance of being kind. Our pupils learned that everyone has an invisible bucket that represents their feelings, and we can fill it by being kind and positive. Doing nice things for others makes them feel good and also fills your own bucket, while unkind words or actions are "dipping" from buckets and make both people feel bad. The books teach that kindness, empathy, and positive behaviour have a ripple effect, making the world a happier place for everyone.
Some pupils were also given a chance to showcase their Anti-Bullying Posters which they had been working on in groups prior to Anti-Bullying/Kindness Week. All of the poster ideas were super and the groups who created the most effective poster in each class (2nd - 6th class) received a prize!
We also used this opportunity to award our triumphant girls camoige team with their Cumann na mBunscol medals! Well done girls.
Throughout the week, the children also took part in special lessons and activities to help them understand what bullying is, how it can make others feel, and what they can do if they ever see or experience unkind behaviour.
We’ll be encouraging everyone to be kind and to look out for each other.
Thank you to Ms. Amanda for all of her hard work in organising the activities throughout the week and the assembly, along with our student council members.
