As we come to the end of another busy term a word of thanks to all who supported the school over the past few months since September. By the time the holidays come around we will have had two major fundraisers -the school Dance-a-thon and the Christmas Concert. The Danceathon raised €2500 approximately, and this money was spent on some ipads for the school and sports equipment.

This term saw the introduction of Dance Classes for St. Michael’s. Mary Farrelly came every Tuesday and took each class for Theatrical Dance. We are looking forward to seeing all the little productions at our Christmas Concert. This year the Christmas concert will be in Drumlin House on Wednesday and Thursday nights only, December 17th and 18th at 7 p.m.

At the start of the term we received bad news about Mr. McArdle’s baby, Ceejay who is still attending hospital regularly. On Friday, December 19th, the morning of the holidays St. Michael’s will hold a Cake Sale in the school hall from 9.30 to 11.00 in support of Ceejay. Please be as generous as you can be, either baking some cakes/buns/tarts/breads or supporting the sale financially by popping in to buy something or by giving your child some money to buy ‘a little treat’ for themselves. Every little helps!

We have had lots of little trips this past term.

  • 5th and 6th travelled to the County Museum in Ballyjamesduff to visit an exhibition on World War 1, in particular one of the only outside reconstructed War trenches in Ireland.
  • 4th and 5th had a skype conversation with their partner school in South Africa, and are looking forward to a visit from the South African teacher in January.
  • 3rd walked down to the Library to listen to an author and musician Willie Drennan, the highlight of which was when Willie played two tin whistles with his nose!!
  • And, finally, for Science Week in November 5th and 6th were invited to Science Labs in the Johnston Library in Cavan where they spent a couple of hours doing experiments. And  First Classes in Ms. Moore’s and Ms. Anderson’s room visited the Skydome Planetarium Experience in Monaghan to view the planets!

Our School Website has been completed and will be launched on Friday morning, December 19th in the school P.E. Hall. Please pop in for a viewing. You might even see your child in amongst all the photos!

Have a lovely Christmas holiday! School re-opens on January 5th.

Please note that children are insured on the school grounds only between 9.20 a.m. and 3.00 p.m. unless they have their own Personal Accident Insurance. Children left on the school grounds before/after these times are there at their own risk.
